School celebrates success

THE current crop of Year 4 and Year 6 students at PLC Armidale have earned top position among independent girls’ schools in NSW, and second in Australia against all schools nationally, as were their teachers in the 2012 NAPLAN tests.
In the results published recently in The Australian newspaper of almost 10,000 schools across the country, PLC Armidale featured in second place in the primary section of the NAPLAN tests conducted in 2012.
“This is an absolutely outstanding achievement for our College,” Head of School Debra Kelliher said.
“We are so very proud of our students, as well as their dedicated teachers. Our secondary school also achieved 60th place nationally across all government and non-government schools.”
The Head of PLC Armidale’s Junior School, Melissa Watters said the results were impressive, but it is just one test on one day.
“These results provide us with a snapshot of student learning which enable our teachers to teach more effectively,” Mrs Watters said.
“We do not over-emphasise testing, nor do we teach to the NAPLAN test. Our goal is to ensure that all students learn to be their best within a setting that encourages a high level of engagement, understanding, collaboration and reflection.”
PLC Armidale Junior School is hosting its annual Open Day on Thursday 12 September from 3.30pm-6.30pm, where a Roald Dahl theme will provide an afternoon of “DAHLicious mischief and mayhem”.
It will be the perfect opportunity for prospective families to discover the school’s recipe for success, with gold tickets to attend available by contacting enrolments manager Fiona Mullen on 6770 1700.
