Fishing On the Tweed

A bit too windy to fish on Saturday though I did try. I went out to the seaway and had a look… no way, then headed home which was a lot of fun with the wind and tide behind me. I was flying or at least that’s what it felt like.
Sunday! What a difference a day makes. I woke up about 2 am and the first thing I noticed was the wind had stopped and there were stars everywhere. I was a bit too excited to go back to sleep so I started to get ready which involves charging the still’s camera, the GoPro, remote and also made sure the phone was fully charged and tucked away in a water proof case.
Next I checked the leaders on the five rods – quite often there’ll be a couple of little nicks and that will mean replacing it. Food is also important so a can of beans gets thrown in, water, binoculars, lures, plastics, gloves, net, lip grips, pliers, scissors, then it all gets put in various places on the yak.
All set, then I headed up to the car wrecks, no fish there, so I went with the out-going tide and fished the banks all the way to Boyd’s Bay Bridge. The tide was about to change so I headed to the Ivory for a Byron Bay ginger beer, then the tide turned so off I went getting a free ride home fishing the whole way.
The fishing was extraordinary, I caught countless undersize flathead with a couple of legal ones thrown in. I also caught whiting, a mulloway and bream. The highlight was the best fight with a cracking golden trevally – caught with 2lb leader, no skull dragging there that’s for sure, just patience and good drag control and I netted the fish.
A good day all up.
Cheers.
