Kingscliff too tough for Waratahs

Kingscliff Sirens came away with a 2-0 over Waratah Falcons in the weekend’s JH Williams Women’s Premiership Hockey match.
Falcons came out with all guns blazing and looked like they would take an early lead but Sirens stuck to the task at hand and were able to peg back the attacking Waratahs.
The two sides went to the break locked at nil-all.  The second half Sirens had plenty of possession and were able to work the ball more and were rewarded with a field goal to Zoe-Brooke Kellermeyer and then after a number of corners they broke through with a second goal by Gabrielle Nance to seal the game. Kingscliff were best served by Zoe-Brooke Kellermeyer, Lorelle Morrissey and Gabrielle Nance in the forwards and Annabelle Nance, who was player of the match, and Rebecca Mitchell and in the goals Sheree Fulcher.
Meanwhile Mullumbimby picked up their first win of the season when they played out a hard fought game against East Lismore. Mullumbimby started strong but couldn’t break East’s defence and in a turn of play East Lismore opened the scoring.
Mullum held strong and playing with a change in structure and positions allowed the girls to find their feet and play with more connection which saw them awarded a penalty corner in which they convert through Alicia Harvey.
Then from the hit-off Mullum regained the ball and through some brilliant play from Shari East hit back with a goal to Jo Tunstall within 6 seconds.  The second half was an end to end game with neither team able to capitalise on their opportunities up front which saw Mullum hold onto the win 2-1.
Mullumbimby were best served by Jo Tunstall, Erin Alidenes and Shari East. Casuarina had a successful away game, coming home with a 4-2 win against Glee.
After adjusting to the new hybrid turf and blinding Ballina sun set, Kim Tuckwell secured Casuarina’s first goal in the 17th minute.
Jaymi Lee Ashburn and Savannah Fitzpatrick added to the goal count, with Jaymi scrambling against the Glee goalie one on one and Savannah executing a text book Tomahawk from the top of the circle. Casuarina was strengthened by their defence throughout the game with Allie Farrell having an excellent game, demonstrating solid tackling and distribution skills.
Glee made a come-back in the second half scoring two goals, however, Casuarina managed to hold on thanks to Jaymi Lee Ashburn and the Casuarina short corner combination of Savannah Fitzpatrick, Deb Dolan and Kym Tuckwell.
In the other game Northern Star beat Ballina 3-1
The Men’s JH William’s Premier League Murwillumbah played at Burringbar on Saturday on grass which was the first time a number of our players had done this for a number of years. The game was very even for all the match with neither side able to really dominate Waratahs scored the winning goal with a minute left on the clock.
Kingscliff played Redbacks at Kingscliff on Saturday and won 3-0. we had a bit of a turn around with a tighter structure and the ball was moving more freely.
Kelvin Jordon had a good game in the goals and our goal scorers were tim holt Treva Mills and Henry Prichard Redbacks best was cam Barnes and Corey McMahon and to there credit they fought on till the end they are team of the future for sure.
The men’s games played over in Lismore apprently didn’t get played till yesterday and I don’t have the results.
