Students campaign

KINGSCLIFF TAFE Graphic Design students have been enlisted to help with a major Tweed-wide domestic violence campaign.
The shire-wide campaign carries the theme “Standing Together” and is part of the Domestic Violence Integrated Response Committee’s campaign to promote respectful relationships in the Tweed.
The North Coast TAFE Diploma in Graphic Design students, have been asked to produce postcards that would appeal to the youth of the Tweed Shire and depicts the objectives of the campaign.
When establishing the design the students explored ways they could present respect in a positive light, according to student Odin Mackay.
“I wanted people to think of the consequences yet simplify the responsibility of the moment when the person has the opportunity to choose respect over the reaction, which in this case was violence,” Odin said.
Naoki Kinoshita said that being in the age demographic 16-25, which they were targeting, he found it easy to relate.
“My first objective was to capture their attention, but most importantly I wanted them to realise the importance of respect in our daily lives.”
The committee has chosen Odin and Noaki’s designs as two of the most effective postcard designs which will then be printed and distributed through schools, TAFE, libraries and services throughout the shire.
The Standing Together campaign is supported by the Department of Family and Community Services under the Community Builders Fixed Term funding program
