Mountain bike riders triumph

TWEED Valley riders have shone in Queensland’s biggest annual mountain bike marathon.
Two members of the Tweed Valley Mountain Bike Riders club, Emma Webster and Hayley Scott, have placed second in their divisions at the Epic Mountain Bike Marathon at Old Hidden Vale last Sunday.
Webster was second in the women’s 20-29 category for the event’s full 87km marathon, while Scott was runner-up in the same age division for the 50km race.
It was a typically rocky, hilly and technical Epic course on an unseasonably warm day, causing many competitors to withdraw from the race because of fatigue or mechanical failures.
However, it was this imposing reputation which attracted record fields totalling more than 2000 competitors over two days of racing.
Webster’s characteristic calculating approach brought her home safely in second, while the comparatively inexperienced Scott powered home after a couple of misadventures out on the course.
Tweed Valley Mountain Bike Riders is now planning to stage a series of three club cross-country events at locations in the Murwillumbah district during October and November.
Anyone interested in participating is invited to contact the club on 0414 657 672.
