Softball fightback continues

By TANIA PHILLIPS

AN INFLUX of interest in indoor softball has the Tweed Softball Association staging a second come and try day at the Chinderah Indoor Sports Centre this weekend.
And it’s not just for juniors any more with organisers now looking to stage a seniors’ competition after the interest shown.
“Because of the success and interest shown last Tuesday we are holding another Come ‘n’ Try day,” Tweed District Softball president Linda Threlfo said.
“We are extending it to seniors this week as well.
“This new version means you don’t have to stand out in the hot sun and we won’t be losing games due to wet weather.
“Games will last an hour and are fast and fun.
“All the children who attended the recent Come ‘n’ Try day on Tuesday haven’t stopped talking about it and can’t wait for the season to start.”
She said she also hoped to see older players and parents come along with the Softball Association now considering adding a senior competition.
“The offer of a senior competition has come about because some parents who were watching indicated they would like to play if we had a competition for them,” Linda said.
“So come along on Saturday and find out for yourself how much fun softball can be again.”
She said the day would feature a free sausage sizzle for all players and intending players should wear shorts, T-shirts and joggers/runners (no cleats or soccer boots) and bring a glove if they had one.
Linda said they were hoping to attract players from both sides of the border for the eight-week competition which was due to start on 19 October.
