A MILLION dollar Currumbin Valley home has put a Cabarita Beach-based builder on top of the heap in this year’s Gold Coast/Northern Rivers Housing Industry Association Awards held at the Glades Golf Club on the Gold Coast last week.
Cabarita-based builders, Steve Kerr Homes took out the Custom-built Homes $1 million – $2 million category against hot competition at the awards.
Steve Kerr said the winning home was an architect-designed residence located on top of a hill in the Currumbin Valley.
The judges commented that this was “an exceptionally built home with a high level of detail throughout”, saying “this home is floating on the hill”.
“It was the first time in the past three years that we have entered – we don’t go in them all that often,” Steve said.
“We’ve won several times before over the years.”
He said they liked to enter when they have an exceptional design and this one fit the bill.
“It was in a very interesting position at the top of the Currumbin Valley, the design looks like it is floating across.”
He said the nice thing was that this project was for a long-time client.
“This is actually the third house we have built for them, the first one was back in Fingal in 1999,” Steve said.
Steve Kerr Homes are a bit of a Tweed Coast institution these days and have been based in Cabarita since 1991 as Steve Kerr Homes.
“Before that I spent 10 years working throughout Australia,” he said.
“We came to Cabarita in June 1991 – we have seen a lot of change since then and a lot of nice architecture and buildings.
“We have always been very passionate about what we do – we get a lot of satisfaction out of it.”
The company employs three full-time capenters and has more than 30 or so sub-contractors in various trades.
He said the win was a team effort.
“I’d really like to thank my loyal and high quality team of sub-contractors for once again delivering outstanding workmanship,” Steve said.
