Tweed newcomer Madelyn Muir received a bumper welcome to the area when she was one of the winners in Tweed Shire Council’s Premier’s Queensland Flood Appeal Monster Raffle.
The 10-year-old, who recently moved to Pottsville with her family, won the raffle’s Weekender Pack when the winning tickets were drawn at the recent Council meeting by the Mayor, Councillor Kevin Skinner.
A total of $6098 was raised for the Queensland Flood Appeal by the Monster Raffle and a series of barbecues staged by Council staff and the Combined Lions Clubs of Tweed on January 22-23.
Madelyn bought her ticket at the Pottsville barbecue, on her family’s first weekend in the area after moving from Sydney.
Her prize included a night’s holiday accommodation, dinners, movie tickets, a portable barbecue, an aquatic centre family pass and other prizes to get better acquainted with the district.
Maree Davidson of Coolangatta won the Family Park, which included a four-night stay at Tweed Head Holiday Park Fingal, movie tickets, dinner, wine and a surf disc.
The Pamper Pack, comprising a massage voucher, dinner for two, a facial, wine, tea, condiments and other treats, was won by Chris Collins.
Rebecca Ingliss won the Workman Pack’s car care products, hardware, movie passes, dinner for two and other items.
The Mayor of Tweed, Councillor Kevin Skinner, congratulated the winners and thanked everyone who supported the fund-raising campaign.
“A fantastic number of businesses and organisations were quick to donate prizes for the raffle or goods for the barbecues,” Cr Skinner said.
“Each of the barbecues received wonderful support from member of the community, who again showed their compassion and came to the aid of the many Queenslanders hit by last month’s flooding.
“Thank you to the Lions Clubs that enthusiastically joined the campaign and to the many Council staff who volunteered their time to stage the barbecues and raffle,” Cr Skinner said.
