IAN Moss is a man of two sides these days.
The legendary Cold Chisel Guitarist has been embracing his gentler side – acoustically – in recent years but he also admits he’s getting louder as he gets older.
Coolangatta is about to see the loud side of Ian Moss, best known for his time with Cult heroes Cold Chisel and his Matchbook album, when he rocks into town tonight with his three piece band.
The trio includes orginal Dragon’s drummer Kerry Jacobsen and cooking bass player Jonathan Zion.
“It is really having your cake and eating it too,” the man known to a generation as “Mossy” said.
“It is really fun – it is a challenge to slip between the two.”
He admits that the acoustic gigs, which came about after being asked to do an acoustic album for Liberation were a little confronting at first – stripped back and “not having that support any more all the focus totally on you – it does keep you on your toes.”
He’s released two Liberation albums and a soul album – but that doesn’t mean he is mellowing out as he gets older – just the opposite – put an electric guitar in his hand and Ian Moss back in touch with his inner-self guitar hero!
“I find myself getting more aggressive and louder and it’s not because I’m going deaf,” he laughed. “Although I am. But our three-piece band has got a pretty big sound.”
And while he is enjoying his diverse solo career he also is enjoying being back with his old mates in Cold Chisel – so much so that we could be seeing new recordings from the legendary group some time in the very near future.
