The ties have it

THERE were tie-breaks aplenty in round five of the Ray White-Banora Point Junior Premier League tennis competitions.
In A Grade, after standing two-all from the singles, it came down to the final doubles set to determine the winners between Brody Luc/Flyn Schieb and Patrick Myles/Taiki Tomizawa.
In an entertaining match, with some outstanding rallies and reflex net shots, it got to a tie-break with the lead swapping several times before Brody and Flyn got up to win the round and retain the series lead.
In B Grade, it was also two-all after singles in the match between Aidan Bingham/James McCann and Harry Piper/Molly Mason.
The final doubles set proved to be an epic set of tennis with the lead also swapping several times before heading to a tie-breaker.
With all other matches finished and other players tucked away in bed for the night, these four players kept going in the longest set we’ve had in the past two seasons.
Wonderful rallies and net play provided an epic tie-breaker, before Aidan and James got up 12-10 to the applause of the weary-eyed parents and organisers. It was a great match.
The Terranora Junior Club champs (incorporating Kirra Juniors) were held on Sunday.
There were twice as many entries compared with last year’s champs, which reflects the growing numbers in the district, so there was plenty of junior tennis on show.
In the senior boys, Brody Luc ,13, didn’t drop a game and took home the title to make it back-to-back titles and achieved his goal to emulate Aaron Westerlund (our district’s highest ranked player and now ranked 197th in Australia which includes all pro players).
Molly Mason ,15, is the senior girls champion, after winning in a high quality tie-break match 7-6 against Natasha Collis.
The 12-and-under junior champs was hotly contested with some great young tennis juniors coming through.
Ben Collis, 11, took home the junior boys champions title and Ruby Luc, 9, is the junior girls champion.
There were also many other juniors on the day that played some fantastic tennis. A great day was had by all players and spectators, and special thanks to the organisers.
