Jade was still shaking her head after she and her Dancing with the Stars partner once again not only avoided elimination but weren’t even in the bottom two – not that she’s complaining.
“I know, isn’t it shocking,” she laughed.
“I think Occy must have a few friends and family members out their voting. We have been down the bottom of the judges’ scores and received a lot of judges’ comments but we will just have to see how long he can keep his head
above water.
“He’s had his head down and bum up working as hard as he can and not thinking about the eliminations.”
However, Jade admits it has been a little nerve-wracking.
“You never know what the judges are going to say – you have to be prepared for the worst and the best.”
And although Occy and Jade made it through this week, it wasn’t all plain sailing for the pair, with the elimination of Jan Stevenson and her dance partner Mark Hodge hitting pretty close to home.
“We have all been training up here on the Gold Coast together,” Jade said.
“We have actually been training at the same studio and we used to see each other most days.
“It is a shame to lose two members of our little Gold Coast family – we will miss having our friends up here with us.”
Jan’s elimination marked the end of a huge show, which included performances by James Blunt and Jennifer Hudson and an appearance by Olivia Newton John as guest judge for the evening.
Jade joked that Olivia should become a regular fixture, joining Helen, sitting between Todd
and Josh.
“It was so nice to have her lovely feedback,” she laughed.
With such a big show over, there has been no time for Jade and Occy to think about things this week – it’s straight back to work on another ballroom number. But Jade promises that we will start to see more of Occy’s cheeky personality – which we on the Tweed know and which she sees in the studio.
“We are having a great time – it’s how we get through the training – lots of laughs and lots of practical jokes,” she said adding that the best approach to the show was “not taking it too seriously”.
And this week’s number, she promises, will be “happy and vibey”.
She said he was “finding his feet slowly” and was now spending less and less time in the surf and more and more in the dance studio.
Can he keep going?
That’s up to us!
