TWEED Hockey players Karen Iwanuscha and Jan Saul are set to take part in next year’s Master’s World Cup in Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
The duo made the Australian 50s team for the event in June following the Australian titles in Adelaide last month.
The event, to be held next June, will be run in conjunction and overlap with the FIH World Cup being held in the Hague.
Karen, has been in Australian teams since 2010, but this will be her first World Cup while Jan will be making her first Australian appearance.
She said the event would feature teams from Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, England, Ireland and South Africa.
The pair gained selection after helping to guide Queensland to victory in the Australian titles. Queensland defeated NSW in the final 2-1 after a penatly shoot-out.
“I was also named in the Australian 45s to travel to Fiji for the Oceania Development Tour 25th April – 4 May 2014,” Karen said.
“This tour will be based in Suva and will involve games against the Fijian Women’s Masters 45s and The Fiji High Performance team and will be a hockey development initiative with players, coaches, umpires committed to be involved in coaching clinics with school children and local community areas.”
Another Tweed player Erica Wells also competed in the titles in Adelaide.
Erica, who played in the 35s, also won gold with Queensland in a nail-biter. Her game was tied at 2-2 at full time with Queensland beating NSW 3-1 in a nailbiter.
