CUDGEN Headland will hold its annual Christmas Surf Carnival this Sunday. It is usually the best attended in the FNC Branch as it attracts entries from Gold Coast Clubs. Report time is 8.30am for a 9am start. Cudgen members are asked to report to the club at 6am to set up the competition area and set the swim and craft buoys. There will be a short break in competition at 11am when the club will be presented with a new IRB which has been donated by J.H. Williams.
Meanwhile the Cabarita will hold their Patrolling Members/Active Helpers Christmas Party on 14 December, from 6pm. RSVP by 7 December to Kyle Beattie at lifesaving@cabaslsc.org.au. The branch team to contest the NSW inter-branch the following weekend will have a training session at the beach on Saturday afternoon.
Last Saturday the Cudgen Old Boys Association decided to make up the difference of money raised at the bowls afternoon to enable the purchase of a new 245hp motor for the new IRBs. The meeting agreed also to assist competitors and officials in costs occurred to compete at NSW. State, NSW Country and the recent Coffs Harbour carnival.
Club life-member Keith Lazenby was presented with his 60-year Long Service Certificate and badge by fellow life-member Neville O’Connor at this meeting.
Clubs NSW have come on board to support a number of major sports and education program including the NSW Championships for the next three years. In addition it supports the ‘Beach to Bush’ which will deliver surf and water safety to more than 10,000 Primary School Children from inland NSW.
Congratulations to our under-15 squad trained by Kevin Watler who recently gained their Surf Rescue Certificates – Codie Bell, Lily Cole, Elizabeth Conlan, Lachlan Curtis, Bailey Copeland, Chloe Jones, Katsuto Comatsu, Liam Matthews, Liam McPhail, Lydia O’Neill, Charlie Swift, Sarah Wilson.
To date, patrols have recorded one rescue and 38 preventative actions.
