Wommin Bay Village aged facility at Kingscliff held a special
afternoon tea to honour their founding directors and their contribution to the facility.
The founding directors – Ivan Mackay, Mavis Gilmore, Geoff Dobb and Pat Coneybeer – were instrumental in the building of Wommin Bay Village. Without their dedication and hardwork we wouldn’t have such a valuable facility here in the Tweed.
So to show appreciation, the community room was officially named the “Ivan Mackay Room” in honour of Mr Mackay who had been the Chairman of the Board from inception until his retirement in August 2010.
Along with the other board members, Mr Mackay managed the building of the original 40-bed low-care aged facility in 1994 and the 30-bed extension in 2002.
All the founding directors are members of the local community and have offered invaluable service to the facility.
Wommin Bay Village CEO Helen Grant said without the efforts of the founding directors there would not be a Wommin Bay Village.
“They really were the guiding force of the original Wommin Bay Hostels Ltd and we are grateful for their efforts,” Ms Grant said.
“This afternoon tea was in their honour and will celebrate what has been achieved here,” she said.
“We have grown since 1994 and it is great that our facilities have been able to grow with the community.”
Guests attending the afternoon tea included the Wommin Bay Village Board, the ladies auxiliary, staff and residents.
Wommin Bay Village is a low-care ageing-in-place facility in Kingscliff. It is a not-for-profit community hostel that channels all money raised back into the facility.
