Master stroke

The Tweed region has stepped into the national foodie spotlight, starring on the MasterChef  television program and featuring in MasterChef Magazine’s June issue.
On Thursday [May 26], Season Restaurant at Peppers Salt Resort & Spa received national exposure on Australia’s top-rating television program, with the MasterChef contestants being treated to a rewards lunch prepared by Season’s executive chef, Reuben Radonich.
The episode was filmed several weeks ago as part of Pepper’s partnership with MasterChef.
Friends, family, Season’s staff and invited guests spent the evening enjoying the same meal Reuben cooked for the contestants, while watching the show at the restaurant.
In a separate initiative, Destination Tweed arranged a tour of the region for leading food writer, Simon Thomsen, organising visits to a wide range of food producers, restaurants and accommodation providers.
The end result was an eight-page feature on the Tweed in the June issue of MasterChef magazine, listing around 30 local operators and attractions.
“The timing of these two major public relations coups could not be better, with the magazine hitting the news stands in the same week that the Peppers episode goes to air on television,” said Destination Tweed Chief Executive Officer, Phil Villiers.
“The MasterChef television program averages around 1.5 million viewers and the associated magazine has a readership of over 760,000. Between the two, it really shines the national spotlight on our region as a serious foodie destination.
“The magazine article, particularly, showcases the depth of experiences in the region – both for tourists and for the food industry.”
And the MasterChef-Tweed love affair will continue into next month when Series 2 winner, Adam Liaw, heads up to Salt Village to prepare a four-course degustation dinner at Season Restaurant on June 10.
Tickets for Adam’s MasterChef dinner are priced at $130 per person. For reservations, phone 1300 987 600 or go to www.peppers.com.au.
