Guerilla attack at the Shack

From Tasmania come Guerilla Zingari.

By TANIA PHILLIPS

SPRINGING up from the cold, old cobblestones of the oldest part of modern Australia in Hobart, Tasmania, are Guerilla Zingari.
An original, six-piece outfit creating music which blends a crossover of genres from a core recipe of Gypsy/Roots with flavours of Folk and Reggae, a hard lashing of Blues, splashes of Jazz, peppered with a little pirate madness.
Guerilla Zingari’s vibrant musical textures are shared between heart soaking vocals, ripping harmonica lines, the warm bellows of an accordion, the deep pulse of a double bass, percussive acoustic guitars, the delicate twang of a charango, rich vocal harmonies and a burning violin.
Together this talented band of scallywags weave together a witty, poignant, sometimes uplifting, sometimes murderous lyrical content into a breath-taking journey of storytelling at it’s most raucous, yet warm-hearted best. Leaving your soul open and your body sore from dancing.
The roots of this tree grew out of the meeting of two singer/song writers – Sarah Letters and Nicole McIntyre. These two likely lasses found they shared common passions for vibrant musical textures, rich vocal harmonies and acoustic instruments.
They were soon joined in their musical endeavors by the following wonderfully talented bunch of creatives: Dave Elliston – accordion, multi instrumentalist; Pascal Chartrain – harmonica; Isaac Gee – double bass; and Emily Wolfe – violin, and then Guerilla Zingari was born.
With the release of their debut album ‘Odes for the Reckless’ and new songs always being brought to the table to augment their individual sound, Guerilla Zingari is an ever evolving, enigmatic band with a great amount of passion for the music that they play and whose shows always leave their audiences craving the next one.
