Alumni inspire graduates

TWO of the University of New England’s most distinguished Alumni, Major General Mick Slater and Professor Neil Trudinger, recently shared some of their life lessons and thoughts on learning with graduates in Armidale.
The pair addressed UNE’s newest graduates at two of UNE’s largest ever Spring Graduation ceremonies last Friday and Saturday.
UNE Vice-Chancellor Professor Jim Barber said that 600 new graduates have now taken their place of honour alongside almost 90,000 UNE Alumni.
“Professor Trudinger addressed 220 UNE graduates from the Arts and Sciences Disciplines on Friday,” he said.
“He is a veritable rock star of the mathematical world, an international expert on non-linear partial differential equations,” Prof Barber said.
“On Saturday, 380 graduates of the professions heard from Major General Mick Slater AO, who had a commanding role in East Timor efforts and the cyclone Yasi aftermath.”
