Don’t forget to lend a hand

Cudgen Headland Surf Lifesaving Club is about to get a major make-over thanks to a little help from their friends.
The surf club, due to host the state titles, a triathlon and a surfing event over the next month, will play host to a group of tradesmen (and one woman) and former rugby league football great Paul Harragon on Friday and Saturday.
Club chairman David Field said with a little help from a group of local tradesmen and hopefully lots of volunteers and supporters, it is hoped that the club can finally get their ground floor sorted out and make the best use of the space available.
The group will be in town as part of the “Tooheys New Crew – Million Beers Worth of Favours” campaign. The campaign will see the group travel around Australia working on community projects.
Mr Field said the club jumped at the chance to be involved in the program after receiving an email last year.
He said the group heard that the club had been making efforts to sandbag the front of the club against the beach erosion. In the submission to the group, the club put that they were looking to upgrade their first aid room. “They liked what they said and came up to have a look,” Mr Field said. “The head of the group, Paul Gillispie, is Mr Can-Do and he made a few more suggestions.”
So now the group, with the help of local tradesmen and club supporters, Luke Adams and Adam Mills Carpenters) and Mick Player and Trevor Tesch (electricians), will be carrying out major work, building new store rooms and fixing a myriad of problems big and small.
Mr Field said with the club’s beach access now gone from the front of the club (due to the erosion) their main access was now out the front and into the public carpark. He said the tidy-up would allow the club to cut-down response time to incidents.
“It is really great that Tooheys are coming up here, we are all really excited about it,” he said.
According to Mr Field the work will have the club looking its best for the surf lifesaving titles.
The Tooheys New Crew
Headed by rugby league legend Paul “The Chief” Harragon, the Tooheys New Crew is a team of skilled tradies and good mates who are on the road doing a million beers worth of favours for Australia.
On Friday 25th and Saturday 26th of February, the Tooheys New Crew will be lending some elbow grease and and doing some much needed renovations to the greatly loved Cudgen Headland Surf Life Saving Club in Kingscliff.
The Tooheys New Crew have a huge upgrade planned, where they will be completely renovating the downstairs storage area, by installing roller doors, adding a
new flooring surface, creating a flammable liquid storage area…just a couple of the many upgrades which will be happening!
Locals are invited to the Surf Club Bar and Bistro, on Saturday 26 February between 3pm and 5pm to celebrate the project’s completion with Paul Harragon and some of the members of the Tooheys New Crew.
The Tooheys New Crew have challenged the experts at the Cudgen Headland Surf Life Saving Club a surf boat race – an exciting finish to a hard days work.
