Surfing Australia Green Room Conference a benchmark industry initiative

For the second consecutive year, Surfing Australia has rolled out another hugely successful Green Room Conference, hosting a full house and featuring an incredible line-up of presenters at the Stars Room at Twin Towns Services Club yesterday.
The conference was conducted as a benchmark professional development opportunity for the surf community and was timed to coincide with the lead-up to the Quiksilver Pro at Snapper Rocks commencing this weekend.
The conference brought together many of surfing’s wisest and most experienced minds in a program designed to enhance the knowledge of coaches, athletes, team managers and surfing enthusiasts.
Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew, as he did in 2010, was MC for the conference as well as delivering the opening and closing addresses. Other high profile presenters on the day included: 4 x AFL Premiership Coach, Leigh Matthews; 7 x ASP Women’s World Champion and Surfing Icon, Layne Beachley; Master Surfboard Shaper, Darren Handley; and Surfing Australia’s very own National Coaching Director, Martin Dunn.
The conference, which is now in its second year, is fast becoming a flagship event for Surfing Australia, demonstrating the huge strides the organisation and the sport as a whole has taken over the past few years.
“The calibre of presenters we were able to pull together for this year’s conference has been second to none within surfing and also outside of our sport, with Leigh Matthews featuring as the keynote for the day. Each year we aim to push this concept further to make sure the surfing community has a quality conference which provides high level, professional development outcomes for all of our participants. This year has raised the bar and we will continue to do that in the years to come,” said Surfing Australia CEO Andrew Stark.
Seven times ASP Women’s World Champion, Layne Beachley, was a key presenter at the Green Room Conference, expressing her support for Surfing Australia’s ever-expanding initiatives to the development of professional surfing in this country.
“Surfing Australia is committed to the evolution of professional surfing in Australia by partnering with the Australian Government and the Australian Sports Commission. Surfing Australia continues to be proactive with the development and enhancement of Australia’s athletes and what professional surfing has become,” said Beachley.
Due to the success and positive feedback that has followed from the conference, the Green Room Conference has cemented itself as a permanent fixture on Surfing Australia’s ever-expanding calendar of events.
