NERAM’s new ones

THE New England Regional Art Museum will unveil five new exhibitions this Friday, 3 May at 6pm.
The 2012 JADA exhibition features the works of 51 selected finalists drawn from over 400 entries.
The Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award (JADA) began in 1988 at Grafton Regional Gallery, as an award for contemporary Australian drawing. Leading Australian artists are represented in JADA, reflecting the renaissance of drawing as a significant art practice.
At 5pm before the gala opening, Jude McBean, the Director of the Grafton Regional Gallery will be presenting an informal talk about the 2012 JADA exhibition. Attendance will cost $5 upon entry.
’Margaret Olley: Home’ is the first exhibition to focus on Margaret Olley’s home in Duxford Street, Paddington. It explores her home as inspiration for her paintings alongside photographs of the interior, objects from the house and reflections from her friends. This exhibition will also see the long-awaited return of Margaret Olley’s Yellow Room (Triptych).
’Margaret Olley: Home’ is an exhibition from the Historic Houses Trust of NSW.
Australia continues to be the focus with the exhibition Signs and Symbols showcasing works from NERAM’s permanent collections. With the use of art, this exhibition highlights national signs and symbols familiar to everyday Australians, including Dale Hickey’s Meat Pie and Curly Bardkadubbu’s Spirit Figure.
Experienced artist, costume designer and arts manager, Nicci Parry-Jones, has created an installation of bell shapes in a limited, but striking palette of red, black, blue and white in the exhibition Sense of Play. Visitors, particularly children, will walk into this sensory experience and be able to interact with the works.
From the Mountains to the Sea is a vibrant exhibition of tropical paintings and prints by Bellingen artist Ted Hillyer. By using stylised forms and compositions, Hillyer draws the viewer into domestic worlds and colourful landscapes.
Ted Hillyer will also present an artist talk at 5:30pm. Attendance at one or both of these will cost $5 upon entry.
These exhibitions will open Friday, 3 May at 6pm. All are welcome to attend.
