Boundary Rider By MATT NICHOLLS
URALLA harness trainer/driver Mitch Faulkner should be the next bloke to shout at the pub after his pacer Well Caught Marsh scored at big odds at Tamworth on Thursday.
With Queenslander Lola Weidemann in the sulky, the 10-year-old gelding worked his way to the front after an aggressive drive from the back row.
As he showed at Newcastle recently, Well Caught Marsh reeled off quick sectionals as he won in a mile rate of 1:58.0 at the generous price of $45.40.
Friendless in front
PROMISING apprentice jockey Tegan Harrison must not shower on Saturdays.
For the third time in a row, the Brisbane hoop was allowed to stride to the front aboard Brave Ali and race with little to no pressure.
It seems none of the other jockeys want to go near her.
Great news for Brave Ali’s big syndicate of Armidale owners, who are on cloud nine after his Listed win on Saturday.
Eels cash in play
AFTER withdrawing its sponsorship of the Parramatta Eels in 2014, the University of New England still has some cash to throw at a sporting club if it desires.
This reporter understands that Super 15 franchise NSW Waratahs will be offered sponsorship if a deal can be arranged.
One of the conditions would be a training camp in Armidale and a possible pre-season trial match at Bellevue Stadium.
Bellevue potential
I WAS having a chat to local MP Adam Marshall at the rugby on Saturday and he thinks Armidale is well placed to become the centre of regional sport in NSW.
One of the things we discussed was Bellevue Stadium and it’s lack of use.
Located at the University of New England, it’s a first-class facility, but doesn’t get the top-line matches it deserves.
