URALLA celebrated its first victory in the Group 19 top grade on Saturday when it defeated the Moree Boars by 24 points.
On their home deck at Woodville Oval, the Tigers’ fitness reigned supreme as they scored 26 points to six in the second half to win 54-30.
“It was try for try in the first half and whoever made a mistake paid the price,” Uralla coach Carl Press said.
“It was 28-24 at half-time, but we ran over the top of them.”
Alistair Faulkner scored a hat-trick and Fletcher Strong also troubled the Boars’ defence.
Uralla will travel to Glen Innes this Saturday for one of the biggest challenges in the competition.
The Magpies are rarely beaten on their home patch and Press said it would take one of his side’s best efforts to upset Glen.
“They are big, physical team and I see that Jock Waters is now back with them,” he said.
“But if they don’t control the ball we can put points on them.
“We’ve shown that by scoring over 110 points in three games.
“However, we have to stop them steamrolling us up the middle of the ground.”
Uralla will be boosted by the inclusion of former Fijian World Cup squad member Sainoni Viakula, who will fly in to Armidale on Friday afternoon.
The front rower was meant to play for Fiji in last year’s World Cup side, but lost his place when Petro Civinoceva came out of retirement to play.
