BILL Wheeler described this year’s Tour de Rocks charity ride as the “best ever” following a record-breaking fund-raiser last week.
Hundreds of cyclists left Armidale on Thursday morning for the three-day event, which was televised in part nationally on Sunrise.
Friday’s Anzac Day service at the Junction at Georges Creek was also broadcast around the country.
“It’s quite historic, really,” Mr Wheeler said.
“I reckon it would be the first Anzac Day service at Georges Creek since World War I.”
Mr Wheeler said the Sunrise coverage was “priceless” for both Tour de Rocks and Armidale.
“They did five crosses on national TV on Thursday morning and really showcased Armidale,” he said.
More than $250,000 is expected to be raised this year when final figures are tallied, nudging past last year’s total.
