Council eyes safety

ARMIDALE Dumaresq Council is reviewing and updating its community safety and crime prevention plan.
It is the council’s fourth revision, with information provided to council by the community forming the basis of the plan.
“Council is also working with Armidale Police and other government agencies to identify high-ranking crime categories which the plan will focus on,” council’s community services manager Jane Guilfoyle said.
Focus group meetings will be conducted at the Kent House Community Centre over the next four weeks.
The council has developed a survey which is available at www.armidale.nsw.gov.au and hard copies are available at ADC headquarters in Rusden Street, the library and the Visitors Information Centre.

Sprinkling of rain
FARMERS in the region were given a late boost in March as late rain boosted the monthly total past the 100-millimetre mark.
After a barren summer period, 101.8mm was recorded in Armidale last month, with 76mm falling last week.
It was well up on the monthly average of 65mm.
However, the yearly average is still well below the mark. Around 168mm has fallen in 2014, almost 100mm down in the January-March average of 266mm.

Too hard to tip
ROOSTERS and Dragons fans were left rueing their luck after their respective teams cost them dearly in the Armidale Independent footy tipping competition.
For the fourth week in a row, no-one was able to tip eight winners in the New England Mutual-sponsored competition, meaning this week’s cash prize jackpots to $250.
All you need to do is tip eight winners. Multiple entries are allowed, so increase your chances by filling out an extra coupon or two.
