URALLA Rotary’s art exhibition opened with a bang when Uralla mayor Michael Pearce entered one of his own artworks in support of the fund-raiser.
The entry, simply called Fruit and Bottle was but one of more than 400 entries, including paintings, photographs, sculptures and other artwork from artists across NSW and southern Queensland.
Art show chairman Peter Phillips said Uralla Rotary Club was thrilled with the number of entries received.
“The arts exhibition usually receives about 300 entries, but following concentrated advertising and media coverage, we are now recognised as a major regional arts exhibition,” he said.
“Overwhelming financial support has come from business houses throughout the shire.”
The official opening was conducted by well-known Port Macquarie artist Harold Le Jeune, who also donated a painting to the club.
Included in the display is a painted mannequin by noted Guyra Aboriginal artist Brian Irving.
Potential buyers from throughout New England, the Hunter Valley and Mid North Coast are expected to visit Uralla for the exhibition.
The exhibition opens daily from 10am to 4pm until closing day Sunday, when shorter opening hours of 10am to 2pm will apply.
Admission is $4 adults, $3 seniors and children under-12 years receive free entry.
