Tilbuster and Llangothlin speed cameras have been switched off as part of the government’s turn off of 38 speed cameras across NSW.
Prior to the election, the NSW Government promised a full audit of the State’s 141 speed cameras to determine whether they were effective in reducing crashes.
Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay said the audit of fixed speed cameras was long overdue and would be welcomed by most road users.
“Over the years, constituents have expressed their concerns about speed camera locations and voiced opinions that revenue, not safety, had become the main focus,” Mr Torbay said.
“The audit process has resulted in the Minister immediately switching off 38 cameras around the State, including those at Llangothlin and Tilbuster on the New England Highway.
“While the benefit of fixed cameras in areas deemed accident black spots has been well proven over the years, if they aren’t working, then it’s time to scrap them.”
NSW Transport is currently undertaking the Safer Roads NSW review of speed limits across NSW; and public comment and input is being sought. Visit the website at www.saferroadsnsw.com.au or phone the RTA customer service line on 132 213.
