Boundary shake-up, rural focus

THE final determination of the NSW Electoral Districts Commissioners released last week, confirmed significant changes to the boundaries of the Northern Tablelands electorate, according to Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall.
He said the new boundaries, which will take effect from the March 2015 State election, see the Tenterfield local government area (LGA) move from Northern Tablelands to the seat of Lismore and the entire Walcha LGA move back to the seat of Tamworth.
He said the seat’s boundaries would be moved further west to incorporate the Moree Plains LGA.
The changes will take the seat from an area of almost 45,000 square kilometres with currently eight LGAs, to more than 53,000 sq km comprising seven LGAs.
“Northern Tablelands will change from a seat with a north-south alignment to an east-west, taking in much more broad acre agricultural land – making it more rurally-orientated and diverse,” Mr Marshall said.
