A LARGE group of Armidale owners will make the annual “pilgrimage” to Walcha on Friday to see Brave Ali battle for the $30,000 Walcha Cup.
More than a dozen people from Armidale and Guyra lease the seven-year-old gelding, who will return from a two-month spell in the Walcha feature.
Armidale Jockey Club secretary Jim Dedes is one of the major shareholders and he will be trackside on Friday to see Brave Ali go around.
“His main aim is the Armidale Cup in March, but he should run a good race,” Dedes said.
“There’ll be a busload of us go there on Friday to see him run.”
The Walcha Jockey Club has attracted good nominations for its TAB feature day on Friday, while the club hosts a non-TAB meeting on Saturday.
Brave Ali’s stablemate Jefferson Park will be the likely Walcha Cup favourite for trainer Craig Martin, while Clever Hans, Star of Dubai and Leviosa headed the remaining nominations.
