Melinda Pavey, Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Health saw firsthand the issues facing local health with a visit to Armidale Hospital.
Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay said the Parliamentary Secretary’s visit last week was timely with a debate in Parliament on Armidale Hospital set for May following the presentation of a petition with 11,000 signatures.
Ms Pavey, accompanied by MLCs Sarah Mitchell and Scott McDonald, toured the hospital and met clinicians and nurses, members of the Local Health Advisory Committee and other health workers.
“She had the opportunity to discuss a range of work force issues and see for herself the need for future infrastructure upgrades at both hospitals,” Mr Torbay said.
“She also took time to visit the UNE Rural Medical School to meet staff and students and see the excellent facilities and results being achieved.
“The fact finding visit to our area is part of an extensive tour of regional areas and it’s welcome to have a focus on our concerns and priorities.
“I have asked Ms Pavey to return to our area to visit the Inverell, Tenterfield and Walcha Hospitals and communities.”
