The Uralla Branch of the CWA celebrated their 86th birthday at the group’s monthly meeting.
Around 20 members gathered to celebrate with morning tea whilst presiding over official meeting duties. A lively debate over a proposed initiative to have CWA Uralla members regularly visit elderly members of the Uralla community for friendship and support demonstrated the group’s resounding commitment to the local community and the passion the ladies still display for what the CWA stands for.
The meeting also discussed the recent CWA study program at the University of New England into this year’s country of study The Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. President Karen Dusting and International Officer Carol Farr-Wharton, who attended the study weekend, discussed the history and persecution of the East Timorese at the hands of the Indonesian Government as well as the overlooked cultural history of the country.
The Uralla branch of the CWA meet once a month at the CWA Rooms, Literary Institute Building, Bridge Street, Uralla.
