Armidale Dumaresq Councillors voted unanimously at last week’s Ordinary Council Meeting for calls on the
Premier, the Minister for the Environment and State Members of Parliament to ensure that all existing and future national parks, nature reserves and state conservation areas in the Armidale Dumaresq Council area be included in the list of areas excluded from the Game and Feral Animal Control Act 2002 provisions.
The council acknowledges that feral animal control is one of the greatest threats to Australia’s biodiversity, however Armidale Dumaresq Council believes that
volunteer hunters will have a minimal effect on feral animal numbers and result in needless animal suffering.
It is Armidale Dumaresq Council’s view that feral animal control should be undertaken professionally and humanely, not by amateur volunteers who have a vested interest in maintaining feral animal numbers to sustain their sport.
Armidale Dumaresq Council will inform their local community about theirr concerns and write to the LGSA seeking their support.
