ONE of Armidale’s newest, yet oldest residents celebrated her 100th bithday in style last week.
Mae Brown had a party thrown for her at Autumn Lodge’s Ningana building, where she enjoyed cake and danced with members of staff.
Mrs Brown only moved to Armidale earlier in the year, having lived in the Newcastle and Maitland area for most of her life.
She came to Australia as a 12-year-old girl with her family, who were from Manchester.
Mrs Brown’s husband Jimmy was by her side for the celebrations, along with her son Julian Croft, who lives in Armidale, his wife Caroline and their son Bobby.
“It’s been a wonderful party,” Mr Croft said.
“Everyone here at Autumn Lodge has treated her really well and all the residents have had a great time.”
Mrs Brown received congratulatory letters from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, New England MP Barnaby Joyce and Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove.
