A LIVELY new sculptural work has been unveiled on the wall of UNE’s Lazenby Hall, facing the central courtyard of the campus.
The public artwork is entitled Certain Uncertainty. The artist, Narrabri’s Nancy Hunt elaborated on her theme. “We choose a career path, however do we end up partaking in our initial dream? Life takes us on never-ending leaps, bounds and twists. Opportunities arise and dissipate … We are certain of an uncertain future.”
The art in and around the University of New England demonstrates the University’s commitment to the study, patronage and advancement of the arts.
During the last five years there has been an effort to increase the holdings of art by regional artists and art which reflects themes of importance to the New England Northwest.
Nancy Hunt’s sculpture, Certain Uncertainly, signifies a nexus in the collecting project. It represents both the ongoing support of regional artists and the start of a new long term commitment to public art as part of a vibrant, engaging on-Campus experience for students and staff.
Nancy Hunt is an award winning artist from Narrabri. She has been exhibiting for 20 years, producing paintings drawings and sculptures often based on her experience of growing up and living in the bush.
The many exhibitions at which her sculptures have been displayed include Sculpture By the Sea, Bondi; the Sydney Royal Art Show; the University of Western Sydney’s Acquisitive Prize exhibition; the North East Victoria Sculpture exhibition at Wangaratta; and the Western Area Sculptors first exhibition in the Japanese Gardens, Cowra.
Hunt’s work is held by regional and metropolitan galleries and institutions and in private collections nationwide and overseas.
