DUVAL High School will be recognised with the state’s top award for school achievement this Friday.
The school will be presented with a Director-General’s School Achievement Award for its interactive website reinforcing financial literacy.
Duval High is one of 16 schools and one “community of schools” statewide which are being acknowledged for their significant contributions to public education with a Director-General’s School Achievement Award.
NSW Department of Education and Communities Director-General Michele Bruniges said the annual award was given to schools which made a significant contribution to achieving the goals of the department and the promotion of public education in NSW.
Duval High School students and staff are receiving their honour for www.gobudgeting.com – an interactive website targeting financial literacy.
The website involves students being randomly allocated real-life scenarios for which they are to develop a personal budget using an online calculator.
Dr Bruniges said Duval High School was a great example of the strength of public education in this state.
“The dedication and commitment of our teachers, principals and support staff help to make our education system world-class,” Dr Bruniges said.
“Public education in NSW has deep commitment to teaching values, respect and responsibility to all students, which enables us to provide quality learning environments in which students can learn and grow,” she said.
Winners were chosen by expert panels which considered the degree, value and – most importantly – the impact of the programs on the school’s or group of schools’ teaching and learning environment.
