ARMIDALE residents can pay their respects to fallen and injured soldiers at Monday’s Remembrance Day ceremony in Central Park.
Armidale RSL sub-branch president Bob Holloway said although the 11 November ceremony did not attract as much fanfare as Anzac Day, its meaning was just as significant.
“I urge the public to come along and pay their respects to those men and women who served their country,” Mr Holloway said.
“Remembrance Day is not a day to condone or glorify war, it is about recognising those war victims who paid the ultimate sacrifice.”
Flight Lieutenant Michael Spierings will be the guest speaker on Monday, with the ceremony to be held at the fountain in Central Park.
The cathedral bells will ring at 11am – one of those bells is from the 33rd Barallion which represents New England.
“I hope we get a few more people along than we have in the past and people are encouraged to lay wreaths,” Mr Holloway said.
