We all dream of getting away for an adventure of a lifetime, but for American adventure motorcycle rider Dave Hooker, he lives and breathes it.
Known for his adventures across the US aboard his motorcycle of choice, a Ural sidecar, Dave has garnered cult status on the internet with his blogs documenting his many rides across America.
With the help of Greg Frost of Super Moto and Jon Taylor from Ural Australia, who are loaning Dave a sidecar, and sponsorship for airline travel from Jock Adams, a good mate of Dave’s, who met through Dave’s blogs on the internet, Dave and Jock left Armidale late last month for a three-month adventure through outback Australia.
Jon Taylor, the local importer of Ural sidecars, is confident that his sidecar will do the job for Dave across some of the most demanding roads in Australia.
“The Ural sidecar has the carrying capacity and the stability,” Jon said.
“On a lot of the outback roads, you come across sand three or four inches deep and with the sidecar it is not a problem.
“Dave has had a lot of experience with these bikes, riding in places like Death Valley in the US, across some of the roughest terrain.”
Dave has been riding motorcycles since 1961 and likes to take the sidecar where not many people venture.
“I love working with Ural and for the last six years, I have been an official test rider and they support my efforts. In return, I do live reports and posts of my adventures on the Ural sidecar,” said Dave.
