ANTaR Armidale has teamed up with Armidale-based community arts group Beyond Empathy, to put on a special double bill at the Belgrave Cinema of two outstanding new films.
Beyond Empathy creates art projects with people living on the margins of their communities to tell their stories and engage with new futures.
In their first feature film Rites of Passage six interwoven stories show risk-taking, disappointment, joy and love that come with growing up.
Some of the young people from the Illawarra who made the film will speak briefly about the project.
The second film is Satellite Boy starring David Gulpilil and Cameron Wallaby. Two young boys rely on traditional bush survival skills in their quest to save the old drive in cinema.
The red carpet event is on Thursday 10 October, starting at 6pm with Rites of Passage. There will be an interval with refreshments in the foyer provided by Bidvest and the Servies Club, and then the screening of Satellite Boy at 8.15pm.
Tickets for the evening are $15-$20, you choose, and available in advance from ANTaR committee members or Beyond Empathy, or phone 6772 4667.
Funds raised will support the Armidale ANTaR Newsletter, published three times a year with stories and features about the local Aboriginal community.
