Dementia education courses coming to Armidale

ALZHEIMER’S Australia NSW will hold a series of education courses at the New England Medicare Local, 213 Rusden Street, Armidale, from 28 to 30 October.
The courses can assist carers, volunteers and professionals working with a person who is living with dementia to better understand what dementia is and its impact.
* Monday 28 October: Volunteer education, a free three-hour interactive workshop for volunteers supporting people in aged care, dementia care or general community service on understanding dementia, brain damage and behavior and strategies for effective engagement and communication when visiting a person with dementia. 1.30pm – 4.30pm (afternoon tea included).

* Tuesday 29 October: Dementia Care, professional education courses for staff within the residential aged care, community, health and allied settings. Communicating with a person with dementia from 9.30am-12.30pm and assisting with activities of daily living from 1pm – 4pm (costs apply). * Wednesday 30 October: A free one-day carer course for families and friends who care for a person living with dementia. The course can help family carers to understand dementia, understand and respond to behavior changes and develop effective communication and activities. 10am-2pm (Morning tea and lunch will be provided).
