THE book that celebrates the sesquicentenary of local government in Armidale was launched at a gala event in the Armidale Town Hall on Friday.
Armidale 150 years is a comprehensive record of not just the history of local government, but the colourful characters, families and organisations that have shaped the Armidale community.
More than 200 people attended the launch with former mayor Doug Hewitt as the special guest.
He gave a humorous and lively account of his time as mayor of Armidale and a chronological account of events from the book.
Armidale Dumaresq Mayor Cr Laurie Bishop presented the book’s co-ordinator Poh Woodland with the number one limited edition copy of Armidale 150 years and thanked her for the hundreds of hours of work she put towards getting the volume finished.
Limited edition copies are still available for $75 and regular copies for $45.
They can be purchased from council’s headquarters on Rusden Street and at the Armidale Visitor Information Centre.
