AFTER 56 years of service as a Justice of Peace (JP), Uralla man Barry Sinclair has been formally recognised with a commemorative certificate as one of the state’s longest-serving JPs.
The commemorative certificate has recently been introduced to acknowledge JPs who have served the public for more than 50 years.
“I was very surprised when I received the certificate – I’m sure my family in the future will be very proud to have it, it will be something to keep in the family,” he said.
Mr Sinclair said he fell into the role of a JP casually.
“I was working, giving talks in parliament 56 years ago and someone suggested I become a JP, it happened quite casually.
“I worked as a JP in Sydney and Armidale, I’ve done all sorts of things from naming ceremonies to funerals.”
Mr Sinclair said he had had many memorable moments as a JP, and had enjoyed giving back to the community.
“Some of my fondest memories are of naming ceremonies – it’s a wonderful thing to partake in.
“It has been a big part of my life, and it’s nice to be a part of such events.”
