’MEET the author’ took on a unique twist recently in Armidale, when local gardening enthusiasts had the good fortune of attending a workshop on composting presented by Tim Marshall.
Marshall, who recently moved to Armidale, is author of arguably the most up-to-date and comprehensive books on composting and organic gardening currently available.
He is described by Peter Cundall as “an outstanding communicator, writer and broadcaster, specialising in organic growing techniques.
His extraordinary knowledge is based on decades of practical experience, caring for the soil and growing every kind of plant.”
The composting workshop was organised by Armidale Local Food (ALF) an action group of Sustainable Living Armidale.
ALF is already known to many local residents because of its popular fresh food stall at the Farmers’ Market in Curtis Park, and also its annual Home Grown Garden Tours which have, over the years, given participants an opportunity to visit over 40 individual food gardens to gain inspiration and ideas.
In readiness for spring planting, the ALF stall at the Farmers’ Market on 15 September will be providing a visual display to tempt locals to plant their own patch of vegetables in order to enjoy the rewards of their own home-grown summer harvest.
