Fresh blood makes city pump

MORE than 1300 new students are expected to flood Armidale from Sunday and the town once again bustling with new faces, as the University of New England’s 2014 Orientation Week takes off.
A commencement ceremony will be held next Monday in which students don academic gowns and are formally welcomed.
Then Tuesday’s Lifesaver Day is an opportunity for Armidale’s community, sporting and business groups to connect with UNE’s new students and display what the community has to offer to help students settle in to their new home away from home
“Lifesaver Day is one of the most important parts of Orientation Week here at the University,” Student Services associate director Rhonda Leece said.
“It’s a time when students new to university are able to see what services, clubs and societies are available to them as they find their feet with tertiary study and make new friendships,” she said.
“With well over 100 stalls, a live DJ and pool party in operation, it is really more of a trade fair, where students are actively looking for what is on offer.”
If you run a community business or organisation and would like to be a part of Lifesaver Day, email lifesaverday@gmail.com or phone 6773 4496.
