HILLGROVE romped to victory in the Armidale District Cricket Association under-16’s grand final on Monday night, defeating The Armidale School by 96 runs.
The Colts provided TAS a small window of hope when they only managed to improve its score by 53 runs on the final day, but TAS was unable to reel in the formidable total.
TAS’s Dom Pilon set his team back on track taking three quick wickets in the first half hour of play, including the key dismissal of dangerman Lochie Elks in the process.
Elks finished on 81, adding only three to his day-one tally.
Jack Evans then claimed two more wickets as Hillgrove’s batsmen gave away eight wickets in quick succession.
But on an evening where runs were hard to come by, TAS could only add 25 to its first day score, finishing on 108 in reply to Hillgroves 204.
Hillgrove’s Jack Carey did plenty of damage to finish with the impressive figures of 6/24 as the Colts quickly dispensed with the six batsmen it needed to remove to win the match.
Meanwhile, the under-12 and under-14 grand finals will begin this Saturday.
Norths take on the might of an undefeated TAS Yellow side in the 14s, while Norths will also field a side in the under-12s against Uralla.
Both junior finals will be held at Newling Oval on Saturday, with the under-12s playing a one-day game and the under-14s contesting their final over two Saturday mornings.
