ARMIDALE’S show has been described as the best in a decade after big crowds flocked to the annual event on Friday and Saturday.
Helped by the dry weather – the first time in several years – more than a thousand people made the most of the attractions.
The demolition derby was once again a smash hit, with record entries wowing crowds on Saturday night.
Show secretary June Dangar said the fine weather made the biggest difference to the atmosphere.
“You can’t beat a bit of good sunshine,” she said.
“Our gate takings will be well up one last year, but if they weren’t it would have been the last year of the show.”
Mrs Dangar paid tribute to new show society president Steve Myhill, who ran a tight ship.
“He did a great job and was really easy to work with,” she said.
“Steve gets things to happen when things might not be running smoothly.”
Long-time show committee member Ray Williams said he was pleased to see the show well patronised.
“I’ve been on the committee here for 45 years and the Uralla Show committee for 64 years,” he said.
“I was also helped start the Wool Expo here 32 years ago.
“The show has changed over the years, but it’s good to see a lot of people coming through the gates.”
