Sign up to join SES

ARMIDALE’S branch of the State Emergency Service is on a recruiting drive for new members.
Incoming Local Controller Josh Osborne, said the city’s SES branch was holding an open night at its Mann Street headquarters on Wednesday 26 March.
“We have about 30 active volunteers and we are looking to build that up to 45 this year,” Mr Osborne said.
“There are a lot of things that SES members do that ordinary people wouldn’t know about.”
Mr Osborne said the SES was Armidale’s primary rescue unit and attended incidents such as car accidents and flood recovery missions.
“We probably don’t get as much publicity as the Rural Fire Service, but we still play an important role,” he said.
Mr Osborne is set to be sworn into the Local Controller position after he replaced outgoing controllor Elaine Tower, who held the role for several years.
Ms Tower remains a member of the Armidale SES.
The open night will be at 7pm on 26 March at 203 Mann Street.
