IF rock climbing is something you’ve considered, the University of New England’s Outdoor Adventure Club is hosting a come-and-try evening on Monday.
The club’s climbing co-ordinator Ben Vincent said the upgraded rock wall at SportUNE was a terrific facility for the community.
“There will be experienced instructors there to help you, so it’s an ideal way to learn some basic climbing skills in a safe environment and socialise at the same time,” he said.
“Rock climbing is a great activity for the whole family to enjoy together and a great way to keep fit.
“It’s a total body workout that tackles four out of the five elements of total physical fitness; muscular strength and endurance, body composition and flexibility and it also works your mind, helping to improve problem-solving skills.”
There are many indoor centres operating around the country, but mostly in the capitals and larger centres.
Vincent said Armidale was fortunate to have a number of climbing walls and said it was due to the history of climbing in the area.
“Many famous climbers from around the world have visited this region because our gorge country has a reputation for great climbing,” he said.
If you are interested in challenging yourself, wear comfortable clothing and tight fitting rubber-soled shoes.
The come-and-try evening is from 6-8pm on Monday.
