The Purple Ball was held at the Armidale City Bowling Club recently. It was the inaugural formal fundraiser for the Sandon Public School’s Purple Class. The high-care, special needs education orientated classroom is in need of a sandpit and the Armidale community dug deep.
Such resources are costly these days, with padded poles and soft-fall surfacing required. The therapeutic and developmental benefits of a humble sandpit make it something worth striving for, yet there are not enough extra school funds to dig the hole.
The fundraising total for the Purple Ball was initially thought to be just shy of $6,500 but the donations kept trickling in and the cheque that was presented to Purple Class teacher Lindy Commens was over $6740. The presentation produced broad, proud and grateful smiles in the classroom.
