OUTSTANDING athletes from Duval High School were presented State Representative Certificates by Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall last week.
The MP met Sam Jenner, Morgan Rowbottom and N’Dea Rumble at the school on Thursday.
Jenner represented NSW at the 2013 National Junior Road Championships in September, competing in the under-17 years road race, time trial and criterium.
He also won the 2013 Armidale Cycling Club championship, after winning both the time trial and road race and finishing second in the criterium.
He was recently selected as one of two new recruits from the NSW Institute of Sport talent pool to ride in a new Cycling Development Racing Team to contest this year’s Cycling Australia National Road Series.
Jenner made his debut with the team at the Blayney to Bathurst road race earlier this month, finishing in second in the criterium and the road race.
Winner of the 2012 Armidale Junior Sportsperson of the Year, Rowbottom was selected in the 2013 NSW Combined High Schools Water Polo Team to compete at the Pan Pacific Water Polo Championships in Perth.
Shoe also competed in the 2012 Pan Pacific Water Polo Championships in New Zealand – played for Tamworth at the 2013 Australian under-18s titles and was also a member of the Hunter Hurricanes Born ’96 squad in last year’s national league senior side.
Rumble has just finished competing in the under-15 800m at this year’s Australian Junior Athletics Championships.
Her selection came after an excellent performance at the NSW Combined High School championships in September last year where she won the 800m, stopping the clock a massive seven seconds under the qualifying time for nationals.
Mr Marshall said it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to meet the students, discuss their future plans and ambitions and present them with their representative certificates.
“It is important to acknowledge the efforts Sam, Morgan and N’Dea put into their preparation which has allowed them to excel at a state and national level,” he said.
“It’s wonderful to see them doing so well in their sporting pursuits and I wish them every success achieving their goals and with their upcoming competitions.”
