The program to remove and replace unflued gas heaters in NSW schools is well underway, with the first 100 schools now complete, the Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay said.
Mr Torbay said the initial list of 100 schools in the coldest parts of the State drawn up by the previous Government included nine local schools.
“I was pleased to receive the news from the Minister for Education this week that nine schools in this Electorate that were part of the first replacement schedule now have classrooms heated by flued appliances,” Mr Torbay said.
“I have been told that contractors were putting the finishing touches on heaters in a few school halls, but that the program had been completed.
“The Government is to be commended for completing this undertaking and I understand the results of an environmental health risk assessment of unflued heating in schools is due to be completed by the end of next month.
“There still remains a number of schools in this Electorate with unflued gas heating.
“I will continue to pressure the Government for the replacement of those units as a matter of urgency.”
Those schools in the Northern Tablelands that have now had unflued gas heating replaced are: Bald Blair Public School, Ben Lomond Public School, Black Mountain Public School, Ebor Public School, Guyra Central School, Kentucky Public School, Martin’s Gully Public School, Nowendoc Public School and Walcha Central School.
