SOME 130 veteran cricketers took to the fields last week in Armidale for the NSW Regional Over-60s Carnival.
Eight teams from across NSW played in the carnival including two teams from Tamworth, Quirindi, Newcastle, North Coast, Lismore, Armidale and a team of ex-UNE students (UNEX).
Lismore – which was undefeated throughout the carnival – was the eventual winner, defeating Quirindi in the final comfortably on Friday.
In the 40-over game, Quirindi scored 9/155 with Lismore reaching the score with only three wickets down and four overs to spare.
The Armidale side didn’t fare so well in the carnival taking out the wooden spoon and the UNEX side finished sixth.
Tournament organiser Graham Andrews said the event was hugely successful with Armidale turning on some great weather for the visitors.
“Everything went really smoothly and the weather was fantastic,” Graham said.
“We are looking to hold the competition again next year. Armidale is a great place to hold these types of carnivals with grounds and wickets across the city which are well cared for.”
